Introducing Burke Mountain Academy’s JP Daigneault

Burke Mountain Academy (BMA) is a leading ski racing academy located in Vermont, USA. BMA differentiates itself on the strength of its community, enabling it to focus on providing passionate ski racers the ability to pursue their academic and athletic potential. Burkies focus on hard work, and the school challenges students to risk failure and learn from success. Burke Mountain Academy has an accomplished and talented staff, recently hiring a friend of ours – JP Daigneault – as Head Coach for the Men’s FIS program earlier this year. Daigneault has previously worked as Program Director at Northwood School, and has held high-level coaching positions at Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS), BC and Quebec Provincial teams in Canada.  Daigneault had a pretty outstanding athletic career of his own having been captain of the Dartmouth Alpine Ski Team and a four-time All-American NCAA Division I skier, in addition to racing for the Canadian team at World Juniors…

Skiing Video Analysis with Treble Cone Race Academy

Skiing video analysis and race training at Treble Cone! The northern hemisphere season is now coming at a close.  But ski race training, including Skiing video analysis, goes on for many top athletes. This week we talked to Guenther Birgmann, the owner of Treble Cone Race Academy. We can really relate to his job; spending most of the southern hemisphere ski season at Treble Cone just outside Lake Wanaka, our favorite NZ mountain with the bonus of spectacular views. We have thrown in a cool shot of TC for this blog, just so you can see what we mean! Guenther has been coaching for 30 years or almost all of his professional ski life. His career covers, Europe, North America and New Zealand. He is as knowledgeable and as experienced as anyone in the industry. He has also been a Sprongo skiing video analysis user from the outset, initially at Sugar…

Paralympics Alpine National Team ski with Sprongo

Adaptive skiers lead by example Many of us have had the experience of racing down a slope, only to be overtaken by an adaptive (partly disabled) skier. But it blows my mind to see someone visually impaired tackling a ski slope. I get that it’s physically possible but the mind over matter is inspiring and captures everything I love about skiing! We recently talked to Kevin Jardine, High Performance Director of the US Paralympics Alpine National Team about his experiences with Sprongo and about his team. Kevin not only has one of the best ski jobs around, but is also one of the most experienced coaches in the world of snow sports. Sure, he loves Sprongo but he has one of the most inspiring jobs in ski coaching in the world. Over 25 years so far with many more to come!! The US Paralympics Alpine National Team The US team is presently…

Ski Team Top 5 at NCAA 2016 Use Sprongo

Sprongo is used by leading NCAA teams The National College ski championships took place from March 9 to March 12.  The championship sports are Alpine Giant and Slalom and Nordic Freestyle and Classic. The NCAA put on an unbelievable event at Howelson. The fireworks, the crowds and the college spirit were in full force under the lights. It was a World Cup level atmosphere supported by World Cup level skiing. As expected, Sprongo users dominated the results, with the top 5 overall all longtime users. These were Denver, Colorado, Utah, Montana State and Dartmouth.  For the first couple of days, Montana State was able to take and hold top spot, before a decisive come back from Denver on days 3 and 4 to take the overall rankings. Montana State starts strong but Denver rules, for the 23rd time! The first two days of the competition saw Montana race to the…

Snowboard Teams that use Sprongo

Sprongo is the premium video service among skiers. Oddly, pro and competitive snowboarders have been slow to adopt Sprongo to improve their performance, with some exceptions.  In Canada, these include Canada Snowboard and Ontario Escarpment from Beaver Valley Ski Club. Canada Snowboard The national team is overseen by the Canadian Snowboard Federation. It competes in freestyle, snowboard cross, alpine snowboarding and para-snowboarding. It’s very competitive in World Cup, World Championship and Olympic Winter Games.  It was an early adopter of Sprongo and continues to use it as a core part of their training. The Federation’s mission is to provide sports programmes and support services to focus to snowboarders throughout Canada.  It focusses on long term athlete development and improvement, including the Women’s Snowboard Federation, the Canada Snowboard Coaching Program and Canada Para-Snowboarding. Its Para-Snowboarding adaptive snowboarding program is particularly innovative. It is for athletes who become disabled but intend to keep going downhill, fast. The national team have…

Scandinavia: ski with Sprongo

The majority of Sprongo ski teams come from the American continent. Though not only US and Canadian teams choose Sprongo to analyse and brush up their sports results. Recently we’ve got raising number of views from our Scandinavian team – Mittuniversitetet (Mid Sweden University). It’s one of the leading research centres in the ski industry. Have a closer look at it. Mid Sweden University  (MSU) is another Scandinavian heavy user of Sprongo’s video analysis platform. Situated in the geographical centre of Sweden, MSU has three campuses. One in Sundsvall, one in Härnösand and in Östersund. It offers its student a place where they can meet, learn to think in new ways and get inspired. Ski research time MSU develops programmes of winter and summer sports. In 2007 the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre (SWSRC) became part of Mid Sweden University. In partnership with the Swedish Olympic Committee and others, nowadays it’s one…
