The Australian rowing team have recently just become users of Sprongo. Their vision is to become the number one rowing nation in the world as well as Australia’s top Olympic sport. They are utilising Sprongo’s tools to help them towards achieving this goal. Rowing is a sport for life that is recognised for it’s tradition and ability to appeal to athletes of all ages. Rowing is a part of Australia’s national sporting and cultural heritage. Their international success dates all the way back to 1867, when Edward ‘Ned’ Trickett won the first sporting World Championship for Australia.

Rowing Australia is the national governing body for the sport. Rowing Australia aims to ensure the continuation of high performance success and also provide a blueprint for further development of the sport. With such a strong vision Rowing Australia values excellence, integrity and teamwork. These values all come together to develop a great team of athletes, coaches and support staff that deliver world class performances.

Success

Australia first competed in rowing at the Olympic games in 1912 when it was hosted by Sweden. Cevil McVilly was the first athlete to represent Australia in Olympic rowing. Australia’s first Olympic gold medal for rowing was won by Henry ‘Bobby’ Pearce who competed in the Men’s Single Scull in the 1928 Netherlands Olympic Games. Since first joining the Australian rowing team hasn’t been short of success. The team now has a total of 14 bronze, 13 silver and 10 gold Olympic medals. In 2016 Kim Brennan was the first Australian woman to win a gold medal in Olympic rowing since 1996. Brennan won the Woman’s Single Sculls at the 2016 Rio Olympic games. As rowing’s golden girl was recently included in the 2017 Australia Day Honours list.

There are a number of other international events that the Australian Rowing team compete in around the globe. This includes the Paralympic games, World Rowing Championships and World Rowing Cups. The team shoes great dedication and passion towards their improvement and success. It is no wonder the Australian Rowing team have done and continue to do so well.
