Athletes of Sprongo – Sarah Sjostrom

As a Video Analysis platform, we are lucky enough to have some amazing athletes using our Sprongo platform to help them achieve success! One of our top athletes is Sarah Sjostrom.

Sarah is a Swedish World Record Swimmer, specializing in butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle, however its pretty safe to say – she is incredibly exceptional in her butterfly races. She is a holder of multiple World Records – in the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle, 200 meter freestyle, 50 meter butterfly, and the 100 meter butterfly.

Not to mention, she is the first Swedish woman to ever win an Olympic Gold Medal in Swimming. If you think she can’t get better than this.. you are utterly wrong. Read on!

Her International Breakout

At the age of just 14, Sarah won her very first international gold medal  in the Women’s 100m butterfly at the 2008 European Championships.

She even broke the Swedish national record with a time of 58.38 seconds, breaking Anna-Karin Kammerling’s previous record of 58.71 seconds.

First World Record

At the World Aquatics Championship in 2009, Sarah set her first World Record with a time of 56.44 seconds in the semi-finals, breaking Inge de Bruijn’s nine-year-old record. And she didn’t stop there, the very next day, she won the gold medal for the Women’s 100m Butterfly, further improving her world record time to 56.06 seconds.

London Olympics

At her second Olympic Games, Sarah reached the semi-finals for the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle. She won fourth place in the final for the 100m Butterfly with an exceptional time of 57.17 seconds.

Rio Olympics

In the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won the gold medal for the 100m Butterfly, and set the world record to 55.48 seconds! She also won a Silver Medal in the 200m freestyles, and a Bronze in the 100m Freestyle, making her the second woman in history to win medals in both the 100m and 200m freestyle, and the 100m butterfly at a single Olympic Games.

Way to go Sarah!

2017 FINA World Championships

Sjostrom was on fire at the FINA World Cup in Moscow this year, breaking yet another World Record! This time it was for her 50m Freestyle (Short course) with a record time of 23.10 seconds.

She also won gold in the 50m Butterfly with a time of 24.6, breaking her own championship record of 24.96 she set in 2015.

This girl just keeps getting better! We are sure there are more good things to come from Sarah Sjostrom and we cannot wait to see her continue to achieve success!
